There will be 4 of us traveling from different spots in the US to Prague. I've been watching airfare on American and it's the strangest thing. American is charging way more than BA for the segment from Heathrow to Prague than BA charges. If I purchase the two tickets separately (US - London, London-Prague) I will save almost 1200. My only concern is that if I do separate bookings we will have to recheck in at Heathrow which may increase the time needed between flights. Will 2 hours be enough time? My husband said I should call American and question why they are charging so much more for that segment! Any advice appreciated.
When you change planes at Heathrow, you head to transfer desks to check-in for your second flight to Prague. Thus, you don't have to go through the immigration check point and head for the regular departure terminals. The lines at transfer desks tend to move very quickly. Also, if your checking luggage, you should be able to get the bags "tagged" all the way to Prague even though you are traveling on two different airlines. But even if you miss your connecting flight it will be very easy for BA to get you on a later flight or re-route you on a partner airline. If it wereme, I would book it.
