Can anyone tell me if they have used/purchased airline tickets from a site on internet called, Vayama. They have very low air fares and I just wanted to know if they are ok to make a purchasee from. Thanks Tom Cleveland
Used Vayama last year and was happy with it. Be sure to call their 800 number a few days before your flights to reconfirm everything.
I used them for my last trip to Italy. They were fine. Keep an eye on your flights, as NWA changed our return trip home and Vayama missed it and didn't notify me. Once I contacted them, they were very apologetic and helpful. I'd use them again.
Vayama sells consolidator fares. You may not earn frequent flier miles on them, or if the flight is canceled you'll be last in line to be rebooked. Always check the airline's own site first, to confirm it really is a great deal that you're willing to risk these things for. I've seen the same price on Vayama as on the airline's own site!
BTW, if you purchase a consolidator fare and miss your flight, you're SOL. They may not allow you to rebook, even with a change fare as a regular ticket would.
Personally, it would have to be the best deal I've ever seen to buy from them.
I used Vayama last fall and everything worked out great.
We at vayama value our customers and their comments and are happy to add our own feedback on travel forums such as Rick Steves’. Today we would like to offer comment on the well intentioned postings of March 16th from Tonya and Nancy.
Tonya commented, “Vayama sells consolidator fares. You may not earn frequent flier miles on them, or if the flight is canceled you'll be last in line to be rebooked”.
In fact, vayama offers both public and private fares on our site and this includes some consolidator fares, most tickets purchased do allow for accrual of frequent flyer miles, and policy for the rebooking of a cancelled flight varies by airline policy.
FF accrual rules are set by the airline and there are some airlines that restrict some or all mileage accrual based on booking class (this is not limited to fares or flights sold on vayama). Specific information can be found on the airline Web sites. Similarly, rules for rebooking passengers from a canceled flight are also set by each airline. Some go by price and fare class, some on a first come-first serve basis, others use other methods.
In reference to “Nancy’s” suggestion “Be sure to call their (re: vayama’s) 800 number a few days before your flights to reconfirm everything”, there is no need to call us to reconfirm your flights.
However, it is always a good idea to check your flight’s status a few days and the day before your flight (and even the day of as last minute schedule changes do occur). Reservations and flight status can be confirmed both online and by calling the airline directly. All you need to view your current itinerary on vayama, at any time, is to click on the “my trip” link of our homepage and enter your Trip ID and email address. If you prefer to call the airline, a list of toll-free airline numbers can be found in our “Help” area. (Note: a few international airlines require passengers to call them directly 24-72 hours prior to departure.)
Rgds,
