Vancouver local here — honest tips for 2026 visitors (World Cup, Capilano, Grouse Mountain)

Hi everyone — I'm based in North Vancouver and have been guiding
tours here since 2016. With the World Cup coming to Vancouver in
2026, I've been getting a lot of questions from American visitors
so thought I'd share some honest local tips.

TIMING
The matches are in June/July. Those months are genuinely beautiful
here — long days, warm weather, mountains at their best. But the
city will be much busier than usual. Book everything in advance,
especially Capilano Suspension Bridge and Grouse Mountain — they
sell out fast on busy days even without the World Cup crowds.

CAPILANO SUSPENSION BRIDGE
Worth it — but go early morning or late afternoon. Midday in
summer is packed. The Cliffwalk section is genuinely dramatic and
most people rush past it. Don't.

GROUSE MOUNTAIN
Go on a clear day — check the forecast the night before. The
gondola ride up is half the experience. Views of the city and
ocean from the top are the kind of thing people come back to
Vancouver for. Summer also means the grizzly bear refuge is open.

STANLEY PARK
Everyone goes. Few people do the full seawall at sunrise before
the crowds hit. That version is worth waking up early for.

GRANVILLE ISLAND
Skip the souvenir shops and go straight to the Public Market food
vendors. Saturday morning is when locals actually go.

GETTING AROUND DURING WORLD CUP
Downtown traffic will be unpredictable on match days. SkyTrain is
your best friend — fast, clean, reliable. Give yourself extra time
for everything.

HONEST ADVICE
If you want to see Capilano and Grouse Mountain on the same day,
that's a full morning easily. Don't try to cram too much —
Vancouver rewards a slower pace.

Happy to answer any specific questions about the city. Been doing
this long enough to know what's worth your time and what isn't.

And all of us locals are staying at home out in our suburbs, as it really will be very busy.

It is way too late to be looking for lodging in Vancouver (or Seattle) this World Cup Season. As early as a year ago, hotel prices had tripled for those dates. Now if you can afford $1200 to go to a World Cup Game, you can probably afford a $1000 night hotel room that usually sold for $230…….

Remember though both of those cities are major cruise hubs for the Alaska Market. I really pity the cruisers that were unaware about World Cup and face those pre cruise night prices, if they can find a room.

Kathleen fm Seattle: Good idea to give a heads up about Van! Seattle was supposed to have special tickets available for locals, but that might be just dreaming. If you haven't booked accommodations by now, start checking BnBs that may start popping up. When Vancouver had the Expo in 1986 we found a room in a private home that was near a Sky Train Station. Good Luck!
