Thanks Delta

Thank you Delta Airlines. I had flights to Brasil and from Peru scheduled for April (2020), called them and was able to get a full refund with little trouble. I was on the phone less than 30 minutes, and the folks I talked to were great. I was dreading this call, but they made it as painless as they could. Good job, and thanks again.

Yeah....IDK

I was given a travel voucher. Only issue is the same flight later in the year is more than double what I paid.

CJ,
Was your original ticket refundable?
I had a non-refundable one that I exchanged for an early September departure.
Now I am rethinking whether that was a good choice.
Praying that in 5 months things will be more under control.

NursCyn,
Sorry to here you were not as fortunate as I was. Hoping It will work out for you.

Nestor,
My flights were non-refundable, but Delta canceled my flight home from Peru. They had no real choice but to refund. I'm just glad i did not get a big run around. I also am wondering the same as you about how long to wait on making new plans. I think that I'm going to delay till Aug.-Sept. of 2021. I also echo your prayers that this will all be better in just a few months, although I have my doubts.

I was hoping to take the RS BoE 21 days in May of 2021. Now I am wondering if that will be possible. Then to pile other questions on top, I wonder if flights, tours, and sights will be more crowded next year due to the fact that no one will travel this year. At this point seems like the only sure bet is that there will be many more questions, fears, and travel headaches.

Best wishes to all, and good luck.

Did you call today, and which number did you use?

They cancelled my flight home from France but deposited a credit into my Sky Miles account on Friday. I wrote back re a refund and DOT rules and will be on the phone again.

Considering, we bought tixs home from them at 4x the price, I'd like the cash, not credit.

Notwithstanding their legal responsibility, Delta seems to be in no hurry to refund money.

CJ,
I'm guessing (based on NO facts) that since many countries depend heavily on tourist money they will try to open sights as soon as possible. Just a guess.

Bets, I did call today. I called 800 323 2323, it is for SkyMiles members. Sounds like you should be able to get a full refund if they cancelled the flight.

Ufkak, LOL, taxpayer money. Not really funny, made me laugh anyway.

Nestor, I agree sights will open, maybe too soon, but does that mean it is "safe" to travel. I would have hated to been in Peru two weeks ago when they slammed the country closed. I guess it will be based on your personal choice about what the "risks" are. The top to me would be getting stranded in a country, trip interruptions, loss of money due to canceled trips, and just plain ole getting sick. No telling how many things I have not thought of that could be a nightmare.

Update— I managed to squeeze a refund out of them rather than the credit, via 1.5 hours on the phone. Since it’s only the return ticket, it took insistance from me and it has to go through the corporate office, whatever that means. Actually, the credit was pretty good, only had to be booked by 3/3/21 and could be flown later, but anything could happen between now and then.

When I see the $ on my credit card statement, I’ll say thanks Delta, not before.
Now on to Emirates and Celebrity for my other refund$.

I had three domestic flights on Delta starting today, Friday and in a couple of weeks. I wanted to cancel. I called Delta, asked for a callback and got one in about 20 minutes. I got a great agent. She said the flights for tomorrow and Friday--a round trip--had changed more than ninety minutes so she coud give me a refund instead of a voucher. As for the flight in two weeks it had changed but even though it was less than 90 minutes, she would issue a refund as well. I had expected vouchers.

I got two confirmation letters about refunds and she said I wouldn't get any more notes about check in for the flights. I still am so I hope it all goes through. I have the emails claiming the refund were processed. And the flights are not showing up anymore under my Skymiles account.

I have to join the op in lauding Delta for their super customer service. We had reservations for a trip to Italy, departing 4/12. Following the advice of several posters, I was waiting until we were less than 2 weeks out to cancel. Serendipitously, this morning I received notice from KLM that our AMS to MXP segment had been canceled. A call to Delta gave me a wait or call-back time of 23 minutes, almost precisely the time in which a call came. With no ado, the agent canceled the whole reservation, with a refund back to my cc.
