Thalys train question

Hi. We will be traveling from Brussels to Paris August 23rd. There doesn't seem to be a way to book a ticket at a specific time. Is that because I'm just browsing? Will that change when I buy? I'm concerned that certain times will book up and we won't be able to get on those trains.

Also has anyone ever traveled in the family compartment? Is it worth doing? We will be traveling with our 1 1/2 year old son.

Thank you so much for your help.

Which website are you using? All seats on Thalys trains are reserved so you have to book a specific departure. When the site displays the list of train departures, check the circle next to the fare want, and then select "Proceed" at the bottom of the listings. Make sure you are using www.thalys.com When the site asks you where you live or where you are picking up your tickets say "Belgium". Book your tickets ASAP; the earlier you book the cheaper that fare will be.

Thanks. I'm using the thalys.com site. I think I just didn't go far enough into the booking process.

Your response made me think of another question. Is it better to pick up the tickets in Belgium, print them from home, or go ticketless?

You can only do the ticketless option if you have a European cellphone, and you're not allowed to print tickets out at home of with child fares. So for your travels picking up the tickets at the station will work out best.

Thanks. I don't have to do a child fare do I? I thought under 4 there was no charge.

Ahh yes, for a 1 1/2 year old you won't need a ticket, so the print at home tickets may work for you.

You will need to know your assigned Car & Seats, so make sure you take the e-mail that Thalys sends you.
The conductors aren't esp helpful with this.

Pack a lunch for the trip. You can buy food onboard, but packing your own can be cheaper.
Save your money for Paris.

Gare du Nord is a zoo, so just be prepared for that.
