TGV reservation

My husband and I are flying into Paris and heading to Bruges via train the same day. I noticed that I will need reservations for the TGV train to get there. Do these trains fill up fast? Would it be advised to get my reservations before I leave?

Hi Kate,

You didn't say when you are traveling - a holiday weekend during high season, or mid-week in February - but, personally, I always feel better when I have my reservation in hand.

If you book before you go, you might want to consider refundable train tickets in case your flight is delayed. Your travel agent can tell you the price differences and rules.

I think reservations made here are significantly cheaper than buying them on the spot in EU, too. That difference may be eaten up by buying a refundable vs. non-refundable ticket, but it's worth asking about.

Good luck, Kate; hope you have a great trip!

Definitely purchase tickets before you go...you will be able to take advantage of some cheaper rates that probably won't be available when you arrive. Check www.thalys.com and you can get tickets for the Thalys from Paris to Brussels for as low as 25 Euro. You can book three months out, I believe, for Thalys. Take a couple of hours to see Grand Place in Brussels, then grab the local train to Bruges (2 trains/hour, an hour to make the run). But, as others have said, these cheap tickets mean no refunds and no changes.
