We would like to take the TGV from Charles DeGaul (CDG) to Rennes, but are worried about dragging all our luggage and making the required transfer in Le Mans. Does any one have experience with missing the connection and catching a later train? The point to point tickets don't seem to allow for this. Thanks much, Mike from Oshkosh
How much luggage do you have and how tight is your connection? Seriously, even with two pieces of luggage each, you can probably change trains with as little as a three minute time gap. It's nothing like changing flights. Trains usually arrive and depart exactly on time, and all the tracks are right next to each other. You simply hop off one train, walk a short distance to the connecting platform, and hop on the next. Even in Antwerp's giant train station, I don't think it's ever taken me more than 5 minutes to go from one platfrom to another.
Mike,
What source did you use for timetables? According to the German rail timetables, no change of train is required in Le Mans. Direct TGVs from CDG to Rennes depart at 10:27, 13:16, 15:52, and 18:24. You can also go into Paris and take direct TGVs from Gare Montparnasse to Rennes.
To see for yourself, go to the DB (German rail) site and click on the flag drop-down menu for English. Enter Aeroport Paris-Charles de Gaulle TGV as your departure point and Rennes as your arrival point. After you get summary timetables, click on the arrow to the left of each departure time to see the connecting points, if any.
When I looked up trains from CDG to Rennes, there were TGVs directly to RENNES
leaving at the same time as the one requiring a change in LeMans. They cost 3 euros more for the direct and it looks like it is the same TGV but you stay on to Rennes.
