if i have a swiss pass, how do i book zurich - paris ticket @ passholder fare. no where on any websites is there an option to do so...
Try RailEurope.com; just follow the directions. Doesn't look like it's gonna be cheap, though, at least not for the dummy dates I put in :-( (I tried both obb and tgv; I didn't see anywhere on either site to purchase only a reservation, but sometimes this info is well-buried...)
You cannot buy only a passholder reservation online on either the Swiss Rail site or the French Rail site. You can buy a passholder reservation on the Rail Europe site. However, if you only have a Swiss pass, then you'll be in trouble. You must have a pass that covers both Switzerland and France. If you only have a Swiss pass, then you can use it to get as far as Basel and you can buy a regular ticket from Basel to Paris. Another factor is that SNCF (French Rail) limits the number of seats it allocates to passholders. You may find that those seats are gone for the train of your choice even though the train is not sold out and you could easily buy regular tickets.
thanks for the prompt replies. i will book regular tickets via Rail Europe or sbb site.
And that's why the 'passholder reservation' was so expensive; instead of RailEurope saying 'Swiss Pass isn't enough', it just quoted me the price for a regular ticket.
