TGV from CDG to Lyon

We arrive at Paris airport CDG on Friday, May 20 at 8:20 a.m. and want to take the TGV from CDG to Lyon. Do we need to book ahead? If so, what is the best way to do that online. There will be 2 adults and 2 young adults (21 and 18).

Thanks. Are those fares for 4 people? Also, any chance we won't get seats if we wait and buy the tickets when we arrive?

Leanne _ the fares I found was for 4 people. As far as if you can purchase seats on the day of arrival, you should be able to. I also noticed a special Mini group OFFER. I'll admit I'm not sure how it works. Lee, Michael, and Tim are much more knowledgeable on Europe train systems than I am. Hopefully they will see this post and respond.

You shouldn't have trouble buying those tickets when you arrive at CDG, but you can save lots by purchasing now - of course, you won't really know when your airplane will arrive until it actually does :-( FWIW, I'd feel comfortable with an 11:00 departure...but you may not. That's fine. I've also done this several times, and know my way around the place...You might make yourselves comfortable with the idea of not leaving CDG until 13:01 (arrival at 15:01) just in case you're running behind (plane's late, lines are long, etc.). If you wait to buy them after you land, your 2nd class tickets will cost €366,00/4 people, and 1st class will cost €475,20/4 people. It's a 2h03m ride; 2nd class will be absolutely fine. Be aware that you may be in line at the ticket counter at CDG for up to 1 hour in order to purchase/collect these tickets! Make time in your itinerary for this!!! Go to http://parisbytrain.com/ for info on the train station at CDG - lots of good photos to 'walk' you through the airport to the train station, and which ticket counter to go to! You're very lucky to be traveling somewhere that actually has a direct train from CDG to your destination, without having to first go into Paris proper and transferring to another train...very lucky!

I assume Joel and Eileen got their fares from tgv-europe.com. For four adults the standard 2nd class fare for CDG-Lyon is €366.00. At this late date the cheapest discount fare tickets are long gone, but you still can get a 2nd class Loisir fare of €345.60 on either the 11:00 or the 13:01 train. IMO, hanging around in CDG until 13:52 to save a few euro is false economy. As Joel said, you still can get a 1st class Loisir reduced fare of €340.00 on the 11:00 train. Again as Joel said, book your tickets at tgv-europe.com and choose Great Britain as your country of residence. You can print the tickets yourself. No standing in line. If you wait to buy your tickets at CDG, heed Eileen's warning about possible long ticket lines!
