TGV-Europe Tickets

I'm trying to purchase a ticket 'Rome Termini-Nice Ville' from the TGV-Europe site, and it doesn't give me the option for an E-ticket, I guess is because the E-tickets are available just for some lines; so the only option that I get is 'Delivery Free by Post'. My question is, Has anyone bought tickets to Canada, from this site? Could I trust that they are going to deliver my tickets within the 7 working days? Thanks for any help! :)

I'm not sure why you can't get the E-ticket option but there is a way to do this. You register on the www.trenitalia.com website and buy the ticket from Rome-Termini to Ventimiglia. You will change to the French train at Ventimiglia. At Ventimiglia, just buy a ticket on the next train to Nice Ville. Here's what you will see on Trenitalia For 5 days away, I see fares as low as 21.80Euros for a trip with a base fare of 71.30Euros. When you register with Trenitalia, you get an immediate temporary password. Sign on within 1-2 hours or right away and change the password. Then, I suggest waiting overnight for the new password to set. There seems to be glitches when travelers try to use their new password right away for purchases.

Larry, Thank you! This sounds great, even the fare it is better than the TGV-Europe site. I will register on the Trenitalia website and I will start from there :) I really appreciate your information.

Tim, our itinerary is: 'Paris-Venice-Rome-Nice-Paris' and actually since March we made all hotel reservations and bought all the train/plane tickets online, but unfortunately we just got an e-mail from Blu-express Airlines that our Rome-Nice flight was cancelled! so that is why we are trying to fix that part of our trip. We need to leave from Rome in October-04, first trip in the morning (if possible anything around 7 a.m).

Larry has given you good advice on booking on the Trenitalia site. If you still wish to fly, easyJet has a non-stop flight from Fiumicino to Nice, departing at 15:25 and arriving at 16:40. The fare for 4 October is €32.49.

I booked tickets yesterday from Paris to Interlaken and had the same "issue", couldn't get an eTicket, but I'm not concerned as the main default option they give is to pick the tickets up from one of the automated machines in any French train station, which is what I will do when I first arrive in Paris from London. Since you're trip will originate in Paris, if the Trenitalia option doesn't work out for you, you can always fall back to the TGV site and simply get the tickets when you arrive in Paris

Glenn, I assume you have a chip-and-PIN card, because otherwise you can't use the kiosk to collect your ticket(s). Unless something has changed in the last few months...

Trenitalia has great travel deals! I was able to take high speed trains from Rome to Florence to Venice to Monterosso for a TOTAL of $100. USD! Their website isn't as user-friendly as Rail Europe, but it's worth it. Regarding Rome - Nice tickets, I also encountered problems traveling from Italy through the Italian and French Rivieras to Aix-en-Provence. I couldn't get an e-ticket, but the hard copy from Rail Europe arrived at my home uneventfully. The problem was that I had to change trains 3 times, and one train was late, so I missed my other connections. It was a very stressful 12-hr. travel day running around stations, standing in lines and being re-ticketed. Fortunately, there was always another train I could take, and all my other journeys went fine! Lesson learned - never take a trip that requires a lot of train changes. Break it into shorter increments. For the most part, European trains are great!

Eileen, yes both my credit card and debit card are chip and pin with a four digit pin number...I think most, if not all, Canadian banks switched to chip and pin credit cards quite some time ago...I know my credit card has been C&P for at least 4 years, and my debit was converted last year
