I'm about to go crazy, please help. I entered all my info for a one-way ticket from Grenoble to Paris and my credit card was denied, not once but twice. I also thought I received info on this board that tickets couldn't be purchased more then 90 days in advance. I'm trying to buy a ticket in France, can you purchase a ticket as far out as 90 plus days ?
Your card will be denied if you do not call your credit card co first.
TGV-Europe.com has a history of denying some US credit cards for reasons unknown. Someone else had problems with this a couple of weeks ago and reported that if you tell the site you live in Afghanistan, it will give you the option of purchasing via Paypal.
Thank you Michael and Sam for the quick response! I'll re-try.
hi, its been my experience that you cant buy more than 90 days out. Even for local/commuter trains. Im planning a trip for this sept and will be waiting. > you may want to look at using a different browser.
> you may want to notify your bank you are purchasing overseas tickets. If you are going to be using your CC for purchases like tickts and hotels, give them a estimate on how long so they can remove any overseas flags. > you can try using a different browser. happy trails.
Thank you Ray, as well. I did as Sam suggested, no problems with card, but I am calling 93 days ahead of departure date. From previous posters I've learned it is also good to go to their site (TGV-Europe) in advance and get used to its idiosyncrasies(sp). I'll retry in 3 or 4 days. Yes, there is a considerable cost saving versus going through rail europe.com. Michael, those were some amazing ice schulpture photos from China!
I doubt that it's a "90 days in advance" issue, if it was you wouldn't even get to the payment screens.
I bought two different tickets 94 and 93 days out and those went through, the next day I tried another 91 days out and got the "credit card denied" message. I gave up and will try again tomorrow. I used the same browser each time.
Still well within credit limit, so it could be that the credit card company finally caught on that it was a foreign transaction.
Jim,
I recently had the exact same problem. I had called the credit card company ahead still denied. I tried the same card again, same result. I kept on trying different cards same result. I finally tried my new Andrews Federal Credit Union card. I never had used it before. It was accepted with no problem. I wondered if it has something to do with that card actually being issued in Canada.
I had the same issue and NEVER got it to accept three different credit cards...set up PayPal account though and the transaction went right through..go figure...good luck...Cici
My experience has been sometimes it's a Tuesday, or it's 8:30, or it's the 6th of the month, or...No rhyme, no reason. Typically though, I've had no problems. Well, except for that call a few days later from the Fraud Dept at Wells Fargo asking about recent activity on my cc...
