tgv-europe.com question

I have read that you can get good ticket prices using tgv-europe.com, and after looking up one of my trips I am convinced. How do I get the tickets? Do I print them when I buy them- or is there some sort of will-call at the station?

Laurie - When your purchase your tickets it will give you 3 options. 1) E-ticket service : To save time, print your e-ticket confirmation yourself. 2) Collection from an Automatic Ticket Machine : Collect your ticket from an automatic ticket machine with the bank card used for the payment. 3) Delivery free by post : Receive your ticket free by post. I don't think you will want to use option 3. Remember when booking your tickets specify Great Britian as your Ticket collection country, otherwise you will be bounced to the Rail Europe web site.

Laurie, We just booked TGV tickets using the TGV Europe site. Our travel is from Luxembourg City to Paris. We are picking up the tickets in Luxembourg at the train station kiosk. We received an e-mail confirmation of the transaction. My credit card company contacted me immediately of a possible fraudulent transaction. Everything went smoothly. We saved at least 25 Euros per person. Best of luck and enjoy. Dave

thanks guys! I couldn't tell if they were going to give me an option to print the tickets. I can save about $50 per person doing it through tgv!

**tgv-europe says that unless you have a chip-and-PIN credit card, you MUST choose "Retrieval in a French Station": "Cards that do not have a chip, such as American Express and some foreign cards (and that's US!), are not accepted." When given a choice of how to collect your ticket, you'll see your choices; at the far right of each choice is a "More Info" button - click on it. They mean it when they say "Warning: you will be asked to provide the bank card that was used to pay for the ticket as well as its secret code in order to retrieve your ticket." Bring The Exact Same Credit Card; otherwise, your printout is no good :-( So......Choose "Retrieval in a French station" and collect them at the ticket counter with your dossier number/printout AND credit card in hand. You don't have to wait until immediately before your trip - if you're in town a few days early, pick up your tickets when you first arrive in town and save some time.

The trip is beginning in Zurich (Zurich to Paris). Does this mean I have to retrieve the tickets in a FRENCH station, or will I be able to do it in Zurich? If in a French station, perhaps this will not work. :(

I've just gone onto the tgv-europe.com/en website and used Canada for home country, then set up a ticket for Zurich-Paris on 7/19. The screen I'm looking at gives a choice between e-ticket print at home or delivery by post which of course you would not want. Seems straightforward.

You might check and compare the prices on the Swiss rail site (sbb.ch or rail.ch) before you buy from TGV. For Zurich to Paris, I see prices of 133 chf in July, 108 chf in August, and 65 chf in September. That was just for one train (the fastest), others that same day may be more or less. SBB takes American credit cards with no problems, and they say they now have a "print at home" option. Even if that doesn't work, you can pick up the tickets at any Swiss train station (like Zurich) using the code they give you.
