TGV, Avignion-Paris

I'm trying to buy a ticket for September 22 on the TGV, Avignion to Paris. I followed Rick's directions, choosing Canada as my country. That site only gave me three options for September 22, albeit at a good price. I then went back and clicked on France as my country and was offered additional options. Is there any reason I should not purchase the ticket using France as my country? It would appear that in either case I can print out my ticket on my home computer. I will also post this under the France heading as I'm not sure which is better, so I apologize in advance for the duplication.

The available options have nothing to do with which country you choose as your residence. They reflect the fact that you can book iDTGV tickets up to six months in advance and regular TGV tickets up to three months in advance. The three options you initially found are for iDTGV tickets. If you found more options the second time, you must have inadvertently entered a date no later than three months from today. To get the lowest Prem's fare for 22 September on regular TGVs, book on 22 June.

Thanks, Tim. I was wondering what "iDTGV" meant. What is the difference between that and a regular TGV ticket? What is a Prem's fare? I guess it is somehow different from an iDTGV fare? Sorry to be so ignorant but, clearly, I need help. Is it better to wait until 22 June to get the lowest Prem's fare? Which I guess might be lower than the iDTGV fare? Any further advice that you can offer would be very much appreciated.

No apologies needed. IDTGVs haven't been around all that long and I'll bet that most US travelers have never heard of them. Even though they're listed separately and have their own train number, iDTGVs are not special trains. They are designated cars on certain regular TGVs. You choose either a "Zap" car with a lively atmosphere or a "Zen" car with a quiet atmosphere. Prem's fares are the cheapest discount fares on regular TGVs. There is a limited number of tickets at each price level. When the cheapest tickets are gone, the price goes up to the next level. The same thing applies to iDTGVs. That's why the fares vary for each iDTGV departure time on 22 September. The lowest possible iDTGV fare for your route is €19.00, but those tickets are long gone. The lowest possible Prem's fare on a regular TGV is €25.00. If you book on 22 June, you should be able to get that fare for regular TGVs and have your choice of more departure times. If you like a particular iDTGV departure time and want to choose the atmosphere in the car, then you might as well book now.

Thanks again, Tim. I think I did hear something a few months back about the Zen and the Zap (?) cars but I wasn't paying enough attention at the time. And you were right about me putting in a different date for the regular TGV fares. I picked the Saturday before the 22nd as I could not bring up anything for the 22nd. I didn't realize the IDTGV offered earlier bookings, and thought I had misunderstood about the maximum 60 days in advance for purchasing tickets. Sounds like waiting for the regular TGV scheduled to be posted would work better for me as I should be able to get a departure time closer to my preferred time. Again, many thanks.

Okay, Tim. I went to the duplicate listing and could not find a way to delete it. I was signed in and looked all over the page and even went to the my account but couldn't find a delete button or any reference to deleting all.
