Tbilisi , Georgia

I will be arriving in the early morning hours in Tbilisi this coming April. What is the best form of transportation to use? I have seen advertisements for shuttles that may be booked prior. I will be traveling alone and would like to have this arranged before I arrive. Also, any other travel tips for this country would be greatly appreciated.
Best,
Tiffany

We flew into Tbilisi and landed around 3am (this was about 5 years ago). We just relied on a taxi and I did not see/was not looking for a shuttle. At that time of the night ours was the only flight and the airport seemed to clear out fairly quickly.

Since you are traveling along, I would see if your hotel can arrange transportation.

Guided tours - beautiful country where no one speaks English. Russian is the second language.

Thank you for this information. I was concerned that with the limited flights that the airport would clear our quickly; I am very grateful to be traveling there either way.

I did both Georgia and Armenia on my own without a guide and did just fine including getting to Kazbegi, and quite a few of the monasteries in Armenia. Taxis were cheap and since we were a family of four it worked out well. I did go on the free walking tour offered by Envoy tours in Yerevan. We also took the shuttle that Envoy has between Yerevan and Tbilisi because it was the easiest way to see Sanahin and Hagpath monasteries.

Enjoy these countries.

Almost certainly a taxi booked by your hotel will be the best bet for both arrival and departure. They are used to the ungodly arrival and departure times of most European flights to Tbilisi. You may also be interested to look at the tours offered by john Graham at Georgian Chant Tours: those are group tours and I can strongly recommend them, but note that he does also offer private tours, though perhaps not as early in the season as April. In any case, I'm sure he would be helpful in suggesting contacts for you.

Kudu Travel have a trip in June; look also at the Steppes Travel Georgia page, and Martin Randall

Most hotels can arrange the service for about 25-50 GEL. The flight times in Georgia are crazy but luckily taxis and hotels are informed and it is normal for them.

You won't have problems as a solo traveler or as a woman. Georgians are very polite and hospitality is extremely important.
