My travelling companion and I are arriving in Paris at 22:30 hours on a Saturday night. We are staying near the Eiffel tower neighbourhood and have seen that taking a Taxi for the 30-40 minute ride is probably the best option at that time of night, our only hesitation is being charged unfairly by the Taxi driver. Has anyone made this trek, would you recommend Taxi vs. the Bus/Metro option? We are also a bit apprehensive to lug our suitcases through the Paris Metro system at midnight. Thank you in advance for your feedback :)
I don't see a problem with hauling your stuff - - a late plane, clearing customs/immigration, etc, can put you uncomfortably close to metro-closing, however. You don't have to worry about a screw job from a taxi. The're under the aegis of the Prefecture of Police and walk the straight and narrow.
My own experience with many trips to Paris is that you don't have to worry about taxis there. The taxis are metered. By law they all charge the same rate. Maybe I've been lucky, but I've never felt ripped off by a Paris taxi driver. Just find the taxi rank outside the terminal and take the one first in line. I'd vote for the taxi over the metro at that hour, especially if you're hauling luggage.
