Taxi vs Tube London

Taxi or Tube to hotel Belgravia area? Where does tube end from Heathrow and should we take a taxi from there to hotel?
Also is it best to buy Oyster card on line and can print out be redeemed at Heathrow?

The tube from Heathrow runs right through the centre of London and out into the northern suburbs. Belgravia is a relatively large area. The Piccadilly Line from Heathrow runs along the southern edge of it, and your hotel might be in walking distance of Hyde Park Corner, Green Park or Piccadilly Circus stations. I would personally check on a map to see the exact address you're travelling to and which the nearest tube station is.

It' will be cheaper if you buy your Oyster cards at Heathrow. If you give us the name and/or the address of your hotel, we can tell you which Tube station is closest to it. Or you'll likely find that information on the hotel Web site. For longer stays travelcards can be a good deal. How many days will you be in London and how many people are in your party?

We are staying in London for 4 days. We are staying at the Lime Tree Hotel 135 Ebury St. Belgravia. It is near Victoria Station.
What station does the train from Heathrow stop at near this address??

Shelley, That's a really nice section of London (IMHO)! Regarding the transportation, first of all which Terminal is your flight arriving at? The route that I'd use is Picadilly Line from Heathrow to Earl's Court, transfer to District line (direction Upminster) to Victoria Tube station. It's an easy walk from London Victoria to Ebury Street. I believe there's some construction happening on some Tube lines, but I'm not sure of the specifics. Hopefully one of the U.K. members can provide further information on that. If you like good Italian food and your budget will allow, you might enjoy dinner at Santini one night. Also, the Ebury Wine Bar is a great place to spend a few hours. Happy travels!

Regarding Ken's suggestion above, it is easier to transfer to the District Line at Hammersmith- you just walk across the platform. Londoners do this routinely. At Earls Court you need to change levels (via long escalators and some walking) as the Piccadilly Line is a deep underground line, whereas District is very close to street level There are many other places on this site with this same recommendation

Very good point about changing at Hammersmith, Baron's Court or even Acton Town. I, too, have to frequently travel between LHR and Victoria Station and if you carry more than a small piece of carry-on you'll want an easy and convenient change. So my two preferred stations for changing from the Piccadilly Line to the District Line vv. are Baron's Court and Acton Town. An Oyster card is easy to get and they never charge you more than a day-ticket would have cost you. But usually you end up being much, much cheaper...

I agree that changing to the District Line at Hammersmith is a good idea. Buy your Oyster cards at Heathrow and load about 20 pay-as-you-go pounds on each of them. When you leave London you can get a refund on your deposit plus any unspent pounds that are on the cards. National Rail sells paper travelcards with the NR logo on them that make it possible for you to take advantage of their 2for1 offers. To see a list of offers and to print vouchers for the ones that interest you, go here. Buy one day, zone 1-2 travelcards for each day you plan to use a 2for1 offer and don't use your Oyster cards on those days.
