Taxi Or Other Transportation From Heathrow To Kensington Area Hotel

My husband and I will be in London at the end of May. We are in our 60's. We have been looking forward to taking black taxis to/from Heathrow. I have read though they are very expensive. Is it worth it to bite the bullet and enjoy the black taxis or should we take the Dot2Dot shuttle to our Holiday Inn in Kensington? Thank you?

Elaine,

As I said earlier, I'm reporting on my experience with Dot2Dot, having just returned from London. They were great! The vans are remarkably spacious, new, and comfortable, and I only waited 5 minutes at the airport, since I had reserved earlier. I did not try them on the return, as I had a very early flight, and was concerned about timing. If I hadn't been, I most certainly would have used them on the return. It's a wonderful alternative to taxis, and I'm surprised they haven't been mentioned in travel books. Have a great trip! By the way, from Mayfair, the taxi fair to Heathrow was 57+ pounds, as opposed to 19 pounds on Dot2Dot. Huge difference.

Hello Gay,

Thank you for your comments. We will go ahead and use Dot2Dot then. I'm relieved to know you had a good experience. I have been in a quandry as to which service to use. They all seem to meet you at the airport with their signs. The problem is they only allow an hour, before they start charging you for "wait time". We could be delayed in customs, etc. and it would cost a fortune.

My husband had suggested we just wait until we arrive. Then he said we could just go outside and find a shuttle, if that is possible.

Did you have good weather? I would think it was pretty cold at this time. Any other suggestions?

Did you go up in the "Eye"? That looks like it would be fun. I have read some reviews which said it wasn't what it was cracked up to be though. Our daugther went up in it years ago. She said it wasn't anything great. We are still going to go up in it though. Have a great day. Thank you again.
