i'm going to prague and budapest and thinking of using an outfit called Budapest Transfer that I found online. They seem to operate in Prague, Budapest, and Vienna and you can book and pay online. Has anyone used them or have any info on taxis in these cities?
I haven't used this particular company, but I used CK Shuttle last week for two transfers (in and out of Prague and Vienna). They showed up on time, the cars were new and clean, the drivers were careful and safe and the prices were fair. They do transfers between all three of those cities. I booked in advance, paid a 10% deposit online and then gave the driver cash for the rest. Each transfer was about $40 per person, door-to-door.
There is less costly and equally efficient alternative.
In Prague, you can ride the A Metro (Green) a couple stops north from the old town to the end of the line and connect directly with a bus that goes to the airport terminals, about a 15 minute ride. Cost is one 32 ck ticket, about $1.65 (or if close to the B (Yellow) line, ride west about 10 stops to the end of the line for a different bus to the airport terminals, same cost). In Budapest, you can ride the Blue metro south to the penultimate stop (check on this if you do it, the bus stop was moved) to get the airport bus to the terminal, this takes about 45 minutes total (depending on where in Budapest you start). This will cost two 320 hf tickets, about $3 (or one 490 hf transfer ticket)
In Prague I used Prague Airport Transfers and got excellent service. The driver picked me up in arrivals hall, the car was a clean, not too old and seemingly well-maintained VW Passat, the ride was smooth, on time,... the driver was fluent in English and German... and they charged just what they said in the reservation confirmation. On my way back to the airport I took a regular black-and-yellow cab (it was a tiny Dacia Logan) but the service was good as well and even a bit cheaper than the airport transfer service. However, a colleague did the same one week later and he ended up paying 50% more with the "free cab"...
Larry is right. Go to Dejvicka station by Metro then catch bus 119. Or from Main train station catch Airport Express (cost 50 crowns). Get off the bus at Terminal 2 if you fly to Schengen country or Terminal 1 for nonSchengen country.
