Taxi Fare at Frankfurt Airport

I am picking up an auto rental off airport at Frankfurt. I am selecting the Europcar location closest to the airport. Does anyone know the standard taxi fare from the airport to the Frankfurt environs?

That will run around 35 €. It depends on time of day, traffic jams, etc. You can easily take the S-bahn into Frankfurt, get off at the Hauptwache and then take the U1,2,or 3 to your destination. This ride will cost you 3.60 €. From the airport to the Hauptwache is about 15 min. and then about another 10 min. on the U-bahn. They come rather frequently. PM me if you want more info.

Does it mean there is no free-shuttle service between a Europcar location and the Frankfurt Airport? or there is no rental parking lot (for picking up an auto) in this airport?

My assumption is that there is no Europcar shuttle service to remote locations. Meanwhile I did find a Europcar location right near the Hauptbahnhof. I am thinking we can take the S-bahn in from the airport and walk to the rental location.

Jean:

I recently got this information from gemut.com, which is, BTW, maybe the best place to rent a car:
"ADDED INCENTIVE TO AVOID AIRPORT/RAIL STATION CAR RENTALSThe cost to pick up a rental car at a German airport or rail station rises in 2009 from 19 percent to 20 percent. That's 20 percent of the total rental, including taxes. The compact car mentioned above for $233 will cost $280 at an airport or rail station. Please be aware that this fee applies only to rentals originating at airports and rail stations, meaning you can avoid the 20 percent fee by picking up off-airport/rail station and returning the car to an airport or rail station. Hi Jeff,
Thanks. I use gemut as well and had received the email. Most times when we travel to Europe we stay in a city first for a few days, then pick up the rental vehicle at a location other than the airport or train station and go off on our journey. This trip is different because we are picking up the vehicle and heading out right away to another area. Andy quoted me an auto through Europcar. I found a rental location right near the Hauptbahnhof so it should be a pretty easy transfer from the airport. Thanks again. Jean

The good thing about that location is, it's right at an underground station with very easy connection to the airport. The bad thing is, it's inside a gas station and it's tiny. Usually they've got a selection of 3-5, max. 8 cars on their lot. The station at Gutleutstr. is much bigger and is only about a 10 mins walk from the central train station from where you can get non-stop S-Bahn connections to the airport vv. Otherwise taxi fare from the airport to Eckenheimer Landstr. is at leat (!) €40 one-way, to the one in Gutleutstr. ask the taxi driver for the downtown hotels special rate (the Savoy is just across the street, so is the Le Meridian), which is around €30 one-way flat. S-Bahn to anywhere downtown Frankfurt is €3.60 one-way p.p. incl. luggage.

I learned this from the guys at gemut.com. There is a Europcar station (also Avis) in Kelsterbach which is a 4km/8-minute cab ride from the Frankfurt airport. Costs about 10 euro.
