My husband and I would like to work our way from Tarifa, Spain to Malaga with a stop in Marbella. Does anyone know how we can get from Tarifa to Marbella by bus? Would it be better/easier to rent a car?

There are no major car rental companies in Tarifa - - only a small outfit that won't let you drop anyplace else. I'm not a bus person, but a guess would be the bus from Tarifa to Algeciras, then a change to get to Marbella.

Thanks, Ed! Our plan was to hop from town to town...in theory it sounds great, but may be a travel nightmare. Thanks for your reply.

If you decide to drive, it's easy enough to get a car in Algeciras, but unless you have some deviations in mind (Gibraltar is well worth a stop) enroute to Marbella, I'd bus (don't recall seeing rail tracks down that way). Any other worthwhile deviations would be inland (eg, Ronda) - - the towns along the coast a pretty grim. I always drive, but that's one of the most boring (but not hard) juants that exists. Even if you hug the coast after crossing the Guadairo River, you're not going to see much of the Med, just condos (some abandoned in construction) that block what used to be a view. Driving time is about an hour from Algeciras.
