We leave for Europe in three days, and I just noticed on TAP Airlines website that the maximum weight for a carry on bag is 13 pounds!?! Are they serious? Does anyone know if they really enforce that?
Haven't use TAP. But 13 pounds is not an unusual number and some of the discount airlines, like Ryan Air, absolute enforces the limit because it is a major source of additional revenue. Good Luck
It doesn't look to me like TAP is trying to squeeze checked luggage fees, because they allow 50# of checked luggage no charge. . . . . . . ¶ Do they enforce it? No idea, but if they say 13#, they CAN enforce it, and you will have no complaint if they do. Since they allow such a generous amount of feeless checked bags, I suggest you use the 13 pound for high priority and check the rest.
In 2008 I flew from Newark to Porto on TAP with two carryon bags: one small roller that went in the overhead and a shoulder tote that went under the seat. I assure you they weighed more than 13 pounds! We asked in Newark and they said they were okay. (On the way back they had several bottles of port in them so.....checked.) So it's possible that you can get on with small carryons but of course they can enforce their general rules. Probably you are better off if the bag(s) are kind of small and you look like you are in complete control of your luggage. I.e., no extra carriers with stuff, don't look like you are going to smack people on the head on your way down the aisle, etc.
I didn't realize that they DON'T charge for checked luggage. Just assumed that they do, like all the airlines here. So that's what I'll do; go ahead and check it (and hope that it doesn't get lost!) Thanks.
You might want to read "www.flytap.com/Portugal/en/FlyWithUs/BeforeTravel/Luggage/CheckedLuggage". Looks like restrictions for flights in Europe are 44#, a little less.
