I cannot find detailed info on how to get from Volterra to Vernazza. About how long would it take and how much $$ would 2 second class tickets cost. I am assuming there will also be buses too. Any idea where they are and how long/ how much $$ they are too? Thanks : )
Have you tried raileurope.com?
yes. maybe i am not doing things right. i'm usually pretty savvy- but every time i enter in the details it says information not avail. do you know if there is a specific place i should be entering this on the site? thanks
What dates are you using? More than 90 days out probably not available. Just use dates for next month for a good, close number. RailEurope is not a good choice since they sell limited tickets are a good mark up. Use bahn.de for schedule info and the Italian site for prices.
Here are a few things to know: 1) As stated, tickets rarely go on sale more than 90 days ahead of time. In Italy, it may not be necessary to buy them more than a day or two ahead and that's only for very busy routes. 2) RailEurope is not a good site to use. 3) Why not use the Italian Railroad website? Here's the link: http://www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=ad1ce14114bc9110VgnVCM10000080a3e90aRCRD 4) If you have trouble with that, try the Bahn site...here's the link to the English language version (and remember to enter the names of places in Italian)" http://www.bahn.de/i/view/USA/en/index.shtml 5) Go Gators!!!!
stephanie, As Frank II mentioned, Rail Europe is not a good resource to use in planning European rail trips. A "typical" trip on that particular route (as shown on the Trenitalia website shows a train departing at 08:31, arriving in Vernazza at 12:19 (travel time 3H:48M, two changes in Cecina and La Spezia, reservations compulsory on the section from Cecina to La Spezia, second class fare currently listed at €22.60 PP). There are many other departures on that route at different times, some with more changes. Happy travels!
thanks everyone! i will use the info well : ) and thanks frank II -- go gators!
