We are taking the train from Zurich to Paris and wanted to know where it lets off at in Paris? Is it the center of Paris or what arrondissement? We are staying near the Champ Elysees, so should we take a taxi or walk? Thanks
Trains from Zurich arrive at either the Gare D L'Est or the Gare D'Lyon. The Gare D L'Est is NE of the Seine and is probably a taxi or metro ride for you. The Gare D'Lyon is right next to the Seine just S-SE from the Ille D' St. Louis. It is also probably a taxi ride or metro ride for you.
If you decide to take the metro, go to http://www.ratp.info/ to print out a map.
The new TGV EST direct trains arrive at Gare de l'Est. To see all possible routes, go to www.bahn.de and click on "Internat. Guests." Enter Zuerich (not Zurich) for your departure point. After you get summary timetables, click on "Details for all" to see the connecting points, if any.
Your train ticket or reservation should indicate which gare your train goes into. You can easily find all the gares on the metro map (which you can do a google search for) and then determine if you'll be able to make it to your hotel by the metro. Your hotel should have a metro stop listed with it. Since the metro is actually inside most gares, you should be fine unless you need to make a lot of transfers or have too much luggage.
Good luck!
I made this trip just a few days ago. My TGV train arrived at Gare de l'Est. I took a taxi because I did not want to go by Metro with the luggage. I am staying near St. Michel and St. Germain intersection, and the taxi ride was only 7 euro.
