Yes, it's really that simple.
A few things
- the pass covers everything on here: https://shop.switzerlandtravelcentre.com/assets/docs/Overview_Map.pdf
- you will see this includes the train from Zürich Flughafen to HB, and also Zürich public transport!
- sit in the correct class depending on your pass
- have photo ID at hand
- don't know about the deck you're talking about
- download the excellent SBB app if you have a smartphone. Free Wifi is widespread.
- if you have a Flex pass you MUST write the day's date on the pass with a pen before you use it for the first time that day

To add to what Balso wrote, the Swiss Pass covers ALL transport in Switzerland, trains, boat, trams, rural and city buses. You can see this on the map Balso posted. The only thing not covered are some mountain railways and cable cars which count as "tourist attractions" and not public transport.

You don't have to "do" anything to "use" a Swiss Pass, just get on the train/bus/boat, pick an empty seat and sit down. Yes. it is that simple. Somebody will come round during the trip and check your ticket - sometimes, other times they only have time to check part of the train.
"Is it free seating" - no extra costs for seats ☺. No reserved seats, sit where you like (except seats somebody is already sitting in).

"how about the deck between first class and 2nd class" - not sure what you are asking. Some trains are double-deck, most are single deck. You can sit in either deck. Of you have a 2nd class pass you must sit in 2nd class.

"Can i use it from zurich airport to zurich HB" - yes, all transport means all transport.

Chris, does the pass then cover the delightful ferry boats in Basel? Thx!

Pat, no it doesn't. Not even the local pubic transport tickets cover the "Fähri", But the fare is only CHF 1.60.

For the benefit of anybody else, these are small passenger ferries which run across the Rhine. They have no engines, they "tack" across the river using the current, using a cable and pulley across the river to stop them going downstream. Totally silent and very pleasant way to get across.
