Swiss transportation pass economical

I'll be in the Lake Lugano area for one week where I'll use public transport, including ferries and gondolas, on a daily basis to get to different areas in the Ticino region (mostly around the lake) for hikes. I will then take the train to Bellanzona and then to Luzerne, and finally to Zurich. So, would some form of Swiss transportation pass be economical? Larry

When you arrive in Lugano, you can purchase the Swiss half-fare card. It costs about 110CHF. Its good for 30 days and works most anywhere in Switzerland on the trains and buses. It even works going up to the top of the Jungfrau and Schilthorn should you wish to do that. There are other Swiss passes and cards. You can check these out at www.rail.ch. Just click on the Travel Cards and Tickets link. Oddly, the Swiss train website doesn't list the half-fare card but they do sell them in the train stations.

Since I didn't see the Swiss half-fare card listed under Railpasses & Tickets, I message the SBB website (Swiss rail system). They messaged back that the Swiss half-fare cards is listed under Railpasses & Tickets but you need to the Ticket Office on the left under E-Tickets. Once into the ticket office you Visitors From Abroad (4th line down). Four Swiss pass and card offerings, including the half-fare card will appear. It's still 110CHF. You don't have to buy these online. You can get them at any Swiss train station.
