Swiss Transport

Hey all,
We are getting ready to spend a few days in Bern Switzerland in December and are also flying out from there. I am worried about making the flight. I have emailed the hotels but haven't gotten responses yet. The flight leaves at 6:20am and I'm unfamiliar with how early the rail and bus systems starts working. Anyone have any leads? I feel like I've researched this til my face turned blue!

You're flying out from Bern? Bern has a tiny airport with just a few discount flights. The airport can only be reached by bus. The first bus of the day leaves from the central bus station (connected to the main train station) at 5:30am arriving 20 minutes later. You can checkout the bus schedules at the Swiss Rail site:

http://rail.ch

Simply type "Bern" as origin and "Bern Airport" for your destination. You can also enter the name or address of your hotel in the origin box.

The time to research questions like this is BEFORE you buy your tickets.

I appreciate the last comment and its relevance to my question... If anyone has any helpful advice it would be appreciated. I'm flying open jaw, it was actually cheaper to fly out of Bern and it's where my great grandma is from so I thought it would be nice to visit. I can always stay at the hotel by the airport but I'd prefer not to. Guess I could always take a taxi too. I'm hoping to catch someone who has actually visited.

you did Michael and it was much appreciated. I looked into the bus schedule on the Swiss rail sight, I'm still working on it as we speak. I wasn't refering to your post but the one after it, I apologize.
