We are using a Swiss transfer pass to get to and from our entry point and Zurich to fly home- long story, it works for us -other transportation already covered by Scout program. My question is : we take rail to Zurich on a Sat but don't fly out till Sunday- we're staying in city-center area at a hostel - The train goes through HB before it heads to the aiport - can we get off at HB w/o causing a fuss or do we have to go to the airport, get local tix and turn back around? Yes, I know we'll have to then get local tix in the am to get back to the airport - but it was worth it in room savings and that we would probably want to go into town to wander anyway - so why not stay there....
By the way --- BETS is the BEST!
Yes, you can get at at Zurich HB if you like...you can get off anywhere along the way if you like, it doesn't matter.
I have spoken English for over 60 years, and I think I understand it pretty well. I know what "round trip" means, and it is not what Swiss Rail means when they say that the Transfer Ticket is valid for a "round trip" from your point of entry to your destination and back. You can use any border crossing or airport as the start and any B.C. or A/P as the end - the same "any" or any other "any".
Oddly, they make the same grammatical error in German, "Hin- und Rückfahrt", which they should know.
I wrote to them once to get a clarification, and they confirmed that the border crossing or airport do not have to be they same place on both ends. They said you could come in at Basel, go to Interlaken, then exit at Lugano, if you so desired.
However, that doesn't exactly answer your question. No, they are not going to have someone posted on the platform, checking everyone's ticket to see if they have a transfer ticket, and making you get back on the train, or sending you to jail, if you do.
Darn, no night in jail in Switzerland --- it didn't sound like an issue but I am sometimes obsessive that way - if I'm on my own I just go with the flow but with others I like to have a 'visual' of possibilities.
Re: BETS -- I should have said they, as well as RS, are incredibly helpful -- just deal with slightly different things ---
