Swiss train travel from Basel to Lugano

Hello I want to travel from Basel to Lugano July 1. I found a price on the Swiss train system for 41 Swiss curancey. Is it best to book once I get there or would it be cheaper to book on line ?
thanks

41CHF is the standard fare, it will be the same price if you wait to purchase on the day of your journey. Seat reservations aren't possible on regular domestic trains. On selected routes within 2 weeks of your journey they do sometimes offer restricted discount tickets. So check the site later to see if your route gets a discount. But you should budget for the 41CHF fare.

41 CHF is the price with a Half Fare card. That is the way the "new improved" Swiss rail site shows prices now. You have to uncheck "Half Fare Travelcard" and check "adult" to see the regular fare of 82 CHF (or just double the half-fare.) The Supersaver price is 32,80 CHF so I'd suggest looking for that online 14 days in advance of your travel day.

Just to clarify---if you do not have a Half-Fare Card and you don't want to pay the standard fare of 82 CHF, look for the Supersaver Fare online on June 17. Click on the "Supersaver 60% discount" area on the SBB website (behind the Fahrplan window that pops up) and be patient while it loads.
