Advice on train routes and overnight stop(s) in Switzerland traveling from Appenzell to Lugano and up to Interlaken in 4 days. Hoping to take either or both the Wilhelm Tell Express and the Bernina Express. Thanks!

Marianne, It could be difficult to fit in all the destinations you mentioned in four days. In the same circumstances, I might consider something along these lines... The first part will be travel from Appenzell to Chur (2H:30M with 1 change). You'll probably have to spend one night in Chur as the Bernina Express leaves in the morning as I recall. Take the Bernina Express to Tirano and then connect via Bus to Lugano. Spend one night there. Take the William Tell Express from Lugano to Fluelen, and then transfer to a "regular" train for the trip to Interlaken Ost (time ~3H:15M with at least one change). I've never travelled that particular route, but don't see any reason it wouldn't work. The only challenge might be doing it in a time span of four days. Cheers!
