Can someone straighten me out? My wife and I are traveling together through Switzerland in April. I plan to by the 15-day consecutive pass. Does one 1st Class Saver cover the two of us, or do I need to buy two passes? Thanks for the help!
Craig - the saver cards are discounted for each person = but each person must have their own ticket - so you need to buy two. (you can buy for more than 2 - but the min is 2). At least two have to be traveling together at the same time on the same train though (which im sure you will). It can help a little on the costs.
Craig, Tom is right you must pay for two people, but what they will send you is one pass with both names on it. Both of you must be present when you have the pass validated in Europe. If one of you wants to use the pass while the other rests or whatever one person can use the pass after it has been validated.
Thanks, guys, I really appreciate it!
AS has been noted, you must both be present to validate the pass, following that, the pass I have in hand states: "All or part of the persons listed may travel." Although my high school English teachers would have murdered me for such writing, I guess lawyers get it. As to which part of me wants to travel, I will go for the head and torso, after all on the train the other parts are excess.
Seriously, please give consideration to a second class pass. Many trains on shorter local runs in Switzerland do not have first class, and if they do you will likely be the only ones there, or you will only meet other tourists. Second class is where most Swiss travel, and on lake ships and the post bus, there is no class distinction. My wife and I got our passes through RS for $602 total, a huge savings over buying in Switzerland for more than $400 each.
Honestly there is very little difference on trains in 1st/2nd class. However, on the lake steamers, we really did enjoy being able to go to the "upper deck" which is reserved exclusively for 1st class.
