We are traveling from Pontresina by train into Bolzano using the Swiss Pass. Do we need to get additional tickets when we cross into Italy? thank you Annelle

Yes you will, the Swiss Pass will be valid to the border, ie the last station in Switzerland. I don't know the route well enough to say which station that will be, if you ask at the station in Pontresina they will be able to assist you.

Your Swiss Pass is valid up to Tirano in Italy, from there on you will need to buy a ticket.

bear in mind rail connections between Switzerland and Bolzano are awful. Plenty of backtracking needed. Your options: 1) go via Austria (Fiederkirch/Landeck/Innsbruck, then connect to Brennero/Bolzando) 2) go via Milano (Lugano/Chiasso or Brig/Domodossola then to Milano, then Verona, then Bolzano) Tirano is not a good rail route between Switzerland and Bolzano, as there is no rail line over or under the Stelvio. It requires you to backtrack to Milano.
