Swiss/Austrian Pass vs. single train ride tickets

I'm thinking of taking the train from Zurich to Lauterbrunnen, staying there 5 days as a base to explore the Alps, then taking the train to Salzburg, Austria. Would it be cheaper for me to buy a Swiss/Austrian Eurail pass or two single train ride tickets?

I would purchase the consecutive day Swiss Pass. It will cover all your transport needs in Switzerland, and gets you big discounts on the high mountain trains/cable cars; you'll be using the trains and cable cars a lot in the Lauterbrunnen Valley. Click the "railpasses" tab above for all the details. To Salzburg simply purchase a one-way ticket, the Swiss Pass will cover the journey to the Austrian Border.

I don't know what the last day of the Swiss pass might cost, but with advance purchase of a train specific Europa-Spezial Schweiz ticket online from the German Rail website, you can go from Lauterbrunnen to Freilassing for for as low as €39. Freilassing is just across the river from Salzburg Hbf, an 8 min, €2,10 (in 2009) S-Bahn ride.
