My sons want to buy Swiss Army knives in Switzerland this summer. We will be traveling on to Paris and then taking the Eurostar to London. I saw on the Eurostar web site that knives are not allowed on the train. Will that include the Swiss Army knives? I'd hate to have them confiscated! Thanks.
So long as the blade is no longer than 3 inches, your sons can take them on board. Here's a quote from the FAQ section on the Eurostar site:
"(standard folding knives with a blade no longer than 3 inches/75mm are permitted to be carried)."
Good info there Tim!
Although you can get a Swiss Army knife pretty well anywhere... I understand the urge to get a Swiss Army Knife in Switzerland. Just seems neater that way. ;o)
He can buy that exact knife @ King of Prussia Mall. Don't bother getting one in CH.
I travelled the Eurostar from Paris to London this past summer with a decent-sized Swiss Army knife. They scan all your bags at the security checkpoint, but they never mentioned anything about the knife (they were more interested in the bronze weights for a cuckoo clock). That is not to say that they still allow you to bring them on, but I did not have any trouble.
Thanks for the info. We are checking one small bag on the plane each way for various items that can't be in our carry-on luggage. I know he can get the knife here, but he has his heart set on getting one there, and I am choosing my battles. It's a 45 day trip with two (wonderful, but stubborn)teens.
My 12 yr old girl wanted a 'Swiss Army knife in Switzerland, I know you can get them here ,, cheaper even,, but hey , it was the only thing she really wanted.
She got a PINK one ,, engraved with her name and the years.. its kind of cute.
We travelled on the Eurostar and I had my Swiss Army Knife - I carry it everywhere, but in my checked luggage on planes - and had no trouble. I had put it in my larger suitcase which I check on planes. I suppose there could be a problem, but I did not experience it.
Yes, standard folding knives with a blade no longer than 3 inches/75mm are permitted to be carried on Eurostar trains, but of course are not permitted to be carried on aircraft.
