Surprise! Icelandair changed my carrier

Well, imagine my surprise this morning when I opened my email to find that tonight, I am flying via United from EWR, rather than Icelandair. The good news is, they will give me a dinner (if you can call that good news), free headphones in Economy class, and I don't have a stopover in Iceland. Hopefully I'll be able to sleep on the flight.

But it sure surprised the heck out of me to see this, especially since I checked in last night before going to bed and all was still as it was when I booked in November.

Wonder how common this is.

That is a surprise! One of the things I love about Icelandair is that they've never changed/cancelled any of our flights. Did they give you any reason? As long as your United flight leaves on time and you can sleep on the plane, it might work out better! Good luck, and have a great trip!

Nope, no reason. Flight left 1.5 hour late but I have no complaint about the airline and the trip itself went very smoothly.
I was able to sleep on the plane for about 4 hours. they gave us a meal and a muffin for breakfast.

I wonder if this may have been some carryover from the labor actions in Reykjavik earlier this week. I know that our friends' return from Oslo - to Newark - on Friday had delays related to this.
