Superfast ferries

I'm planning on taking the superfast ferry from Patras to Ancona, but the only way to make a reservation is by sending your name and credit card information by email to the company. I want to make sure we have reservations because the ferries tend to book up, but it makes me nervous to send my credit card info through an email. Has anyone else done this?

I would never send such information through email. Is there a website with a secure server that you can reserve through? Or could you reserve by phone?

Kristin - Yes - I have sent my credit card info on an email to B&B's or small hotels and have not had a problem. Never done it to book transportation though - rental car, train, etc. all seemed to have an online form.

They have a website but there is no online form, it says to make a reservation to send an email to an address they provide. I know the company is legit, but that just seems sketchy.

I'll look for a phone number, but it will be super expensive to call to Greece... My boyfriend has been there all summer, and I bought a $10 international calling card to call him and only got 18 minutes...

I could just book it when I get to Greece and hope for the best, but I'm flying into Athens, and Patras is 3 hours away. So if I can't reserve in Athens, then it will be extremely last minute and I would rather not do that. Ideas?

Kristin, I added international calling to my cell phone before we left and got great rates (.29/min) None of my calls took longer than 7 min. to complete giving credit info over the phone. I know I wouldn't be willing to put my numbers on an email. Also, if you boyfriend is overthere, can he make the reservations for you?

I thought about that, but he is on a small island doing work for school. He won't be in Athens until the day before we would be getting on the ferry. And also there's no way for me to contact him to ask him to make the reservation. He very rarely gets to check email and he can only call me about once a week.

I called my phone company about international rates and it would cost $1.49 per minute to call to Greece. So that's pretty pricey. I guess we'll just wait till we get there and hope for the best...

Kristin...if you do a google search for "superfast ferries" you'll find several companies that will book that route for you over the web. There are some variations in the fares they charge, so check out several and pick the lowest price...the lowest I saw for a deck chair in mid-August during the week was 56 Euro.

It's actually free with our eurail pass, with the exception of fuel surcharges. I'm afraid that if I go through another site I won't be able to get the benefits of the rail pass. But thank you for looking.

There just really doesn't seem to be a good answer here...
