I am freaking out, flights seem so expensive. I understand it is the summer but we are flying from LAX into Paris and from Amsterdam to LAX next June/July and the flights are costing at least 1450! Is there any hope that these may go down after the new year?
Keep an eye on fares as they go up and down all the time. They could change next week, next month or in three months. No one knows.
In late winter, early spring, airlines used to announce fare sales. Now, they can do it anytime they need cash.
Thank you to you both! I will keep watching, as soon as it gets anywhere near 1000, we will book!
Good luck finding a good fare. I'd suggest deleting the cookies from your computer when you're looking online.
I have been in a similiar situation the last two summers to Europe but I waited and never paid more than $950 incl taxes.. Like others have said you must use the web farecaster and others like kayak.com. register w/ them and they will notify you when a fare is within your range. But it is hard work and you must be diligent at least weekly looking for your flights. do not forget consolidators like cheaptickets to name another. Unfortunately tho Paris De Gaulle is now one of the more costly areas to fly into. You may also face fuel surcharges. gd luck and be flexible.

Interesting -- what's that all about?
Some people believe if you delete or block your browser's cookies when searching for airfares you will get lower prices. Both Consumer Reports and NG Traveler have done studies on this, and have found that it doesn't make any difference. It's an urban legend.
Hi Melissa,
If you're flying from LAX to Paris in the summer, I know it's super expensive. Have you tried going with Air Berlin? They fly out of LAX to Paris Orly.
See if www.airberlin.com is of any help at all in terms of getting a cheaper flight; the price depends on the day of the week you are departing.
Melissa,an option you can to is buy a hotel/air package with an airline like delta or aa that allows partial payments [that is what i am doing for my trip cdg].
AAvacations lets you put 100.00 down, while Delta Vacations lets you put down 700.00.
United also offers something like this but you have to pay for the air first.
the previous two, you do not. Again, just another option....
Don't be fixated on those two airports--the EU isn't that big--suggest you look at Brussels, Manchester, Birminham, Frankfort, or Dublin.
Then, either use "robbin ryan" easyjet, airberlin, or the train to connect.
Since I fly to the EU on business, I normally look at a number of airports and pick who has the lowest fare, and then check connections.
patience and perserverance is the key!
it has worked also for me for 7 summers in a row. hopefully your schedule is alittle flexible use kayak.com and other websites regularly as all have suggested.
also June is much better for a better fare than july or august.
Jonathan, we are renting an apartment in Paris and actually flying out of Amsterdam to get home.
Thanks again everyone for your help! I feel much more hopeful and am checking daily!
I wouldn't pay more than $750-800. The key to getting a good airfare is to check many sources, manually, every day, playing around with dates and possible airports.
Also consider using a travel agent to get a consolidator fare IF you can commit 100% to a date and understand the terms and conditions of the fare.
I flew Seattle-London & Rome-Seattle on US Airways via Philadelphia last spring for about $630. It was a consolidator fare but earned 100% miles... Tickets were purchased about two weeks before travel.
