I have a relatively short transfer time in CDG. Both flights are on Delta (arriving at CDG from Florence and connecting to a SFO flight). Does anyone know if the flights are likely to be in the same terminal?
Don't know the answer to your questions but one way to get an idea is to check on the flights today to see which gates are being used. CDG is a big sprawling airport but I don't think Delta would book both legs in a way that would be hard to connect. We have always had very good experience with Delta.
According to easycdg.com, all Delta flights use Terminal 2E.
Sherry,
You booked your flights through Delta, but they are probably on an Air France-affiliated City Hopper flight out of Florence and an Air France aircraft out of Paris. They may well be in adjacent terminals, not the same one. Just how short is your transfer time and at what hour of the day?
Even if they are in the same terminal they may not be close together. As others have said, CDG is a sprawling airport. Also, don't be mislead by some online maps. One indicated to me that it would be max 5 minute stroll across the concourse, whereas in reality it was a 20 min dash some distance away. Slightly dependant on the airport, but assuming a large European airport like Paris, London Heathrow or Frankfurt, a short transfer time to me (irrespective of the need to collect luggage) is 2 hours. Even if the flight lands on time, it frequently is another 20 mins before it gets to the parking bay and another 10 until you are inside the terminal.
Roy, my transfer is in the late morning, on a Monday, and they've scheduled 70 minutes. It's on the way home, so if I miss the flight I'm not missing vacation days... that's the only reason I booked the flight
And thanks all for the warnings. It sounds like I should collect as much info as I can before leaving Italy, so I know where to go.
I checked with Delta online, and the flights out of Florence are on City Jet, not City Hopper, as I stated earlier. In any case, the wikipedia listing for CDG shows those flights going into Terminal 2G, which is quite a ways from the Air France gates for U.S. in 2E. (This assumes that the wikipedia information is accurate and up to date, but you can confirm that with the airline.) Air France is confident you can make it or they would not have booked the connection. I am not so sure, but if you do miss the connection, try to talk Air France into rebooking you for the next day instead of the next flight. Even if they are not supposed to do that, it never hurts to try; after all, rules are a little more pliable in France.
