Such a dumb question...

but I haven't been able to find the answer. How early do I have to be at the airport? Are we still talking 3 hours ahead for an international flight? I have a 07:10 flight from Münich to Heathrow, and I'm wondering if I have to be at the airport at 04:10. And if I do, I guess the only way to get there from Münich (near Nymphenburg) is via taxi? Or do I need to find a nearer hotel?

Not for an intra Europe flight. I think you could arrive at 5:00 or 5:30 and be just fine.

For flights within Gemany, without checked luggage, I try to get to the airport two hous ahead, and I always have enough time.

Thanks! We won't have checked luggage. So get to the airport around 5 am? It'll have to be by taxi, right?

Any connecting flight in Europe is consider domestic and two hour is generally enough. It isn't international until headed to the US.

Joyce, Will you be staying right in Munich prior to your flight? If that's the case, the easiest way to get to the airport is via S-Bahn. I wouldn't bother with a Taxi. There's an S-Bahn departing Munich HBf at 04:55, arriving 05:35 (travel time 40 minutes). That would get you to the airport about an hour and a half prior to your flight. There are lots of other departures, some involving a Bus (I'd prefer the more direct route with the S-Bahn). If you choose to travel via S-Bahn, I'd suggest buying your ticket the day prior to travel, either at the EurAide office in the Munich station or from one of the ticket offices. I find that I'm not usually functioning at peak efficiency at that time of the morning, so prefer to have details like tickets already taken care of. Happy travels!

Joyce - I have taken that flight to Heathrow twice from Munich. Both times when we got to the airport, the airline counter didn't even open up until about 20-30 minutes before the departure time. Three hours is WAY too early, in my opinion (unless things have changed drastically).

Thanks! I eventually figured out the MVV website. I had been looking on the DB site, and didn't find anything suitable, but I guess that's because the S-bahn isn't on the DB site? We will be staying at the Hotel Kriemhild. I entered the hotel address, and got directions to take the tram to the Hauptbahnhof and then the S-bahn from there, arriving at 05:15. The Laim S-bahn station is nearby, and the train there arrives at the airport at 05:35. If that is early enough, it'd be preferable. Google maps shows a 3 minute , 1.5 km drive, but a 3 km walk. I guess we'll figure it out when we get there.

Ha. Now I feel REALLY silly. I have NO idea what I was doing before - I think I got some results, but there was a gap between 01:00 and 06:00 where there were no routes. Or something. I'm good now. :)
