I will be traveling 1 bag heavier when I arrive in Vienna from Sarajevo (my daughter's winter clothes!) I will be staying in Vienna for 4 days. Instead of lugging the extra luggage, can I store it in a locker in Vienna airport? Would it already be in a secure area, or would I have to take it through security? Thanks!
I have the same issue. We are flying into Madrid, specifically to leave my daughters suitcase so that we can travel within Europe (without lugging her entire semester wardrobe) and then return to Madrid, where she will travel on to Seville to study and I will fly home. Are there other "storage" options? They would need to be rather simple as we fly to Paris that same day. Geeez, I thought I had this all figured out. Help!
Haven't looked real hard but have never seen luggage storage or lockers in an airport. Most train stations will have lockers and/or staffed left luggage. Sometimes a locker will have a limit of 24 hours. Don't think you will have many options.
We have been through the Madrid airport a couple of times -- our son did a semester in Madrid about seven years ago -- and there was no storage facility at airport at that time. The issue is that they don't want someone leaving a bomb at the airport or in a locker. They have had problems like that in the past. I don't think you have many options or any. If you were staying in a Madrid hotel they might store it till you returned. A lot of hotels will provide a left luggage area. Security is not real high but problems are min. You should contact the school and see if they have any recommendation. I am sure the question has been asked before.
You might want to rethink what you are taking. On the advice of our son's councilors for the study abroad program, he took an absolute min amount of clothing and then purchased what he need in Madrid. The issue was that he wanted to look and dress like other European students. And he did.
Sorry, I don't know about Vienna, but there are left luggage lockers at Barajas airport in Madrid...in Terminal 1, Terminal 2, and Terminal 4. They put your bags thru an X-ray security machine to check them out. I've only stored for a day, but I know they let you keep things for at least two weeks. The charges work out to about 4 Euro/day for a small locker (can easily hold a carry-on sized suitcase) to about 5 Euro per day for a larger one. Ask any airport staffer...they should be able to point the way.
I checked the website for VIE and found Left Luggage on the arrivals level. Many European airports and rail stations have eliminated the luggage lockers and installed left luggage services. As noted in some of the other posts, your luggage will go through a security check before they will accept it.
