Stop over in Keflavik Airport, Iceland

Looking at booking my flights to and from Scotland. Google Flights has given my an option for the return trip from Edinburgh to Keflavik in Iceland then going back to Minneapolis. The stopover in Keflavik is 55 minutes. Answers to an earlier post (2016) on this travel forum reassured the traveler that a 55 minute stopover was OK at this airport.

Just wondering if anything has changed in 10 years!

Thanks so much, Sandy

No personal experience, but if they have been doing it for 10 or more years, it must work.

Since you are starting in Scotland and transfering to a flight to the US, you will stay in the same area for your departure as your arrival. No need to go through immigration.

I've done this a few times and once it was the exact same plane for both legs of my trip. I did have to deplane and get back on when they commenced boarding.

Icelandair allows you to stopover in Iceland for a few days at no extra cost regarding your flight. If you have never been to Iceland, and you have the time, you might consider a few days. It's a great place to visit.

Frank is correct in that it's a great place to visit, and if you can arrange a few days' stopover, it would be well worth your time. I did that in 2018. I didn't have much time; only three nights, but I was able to spend time in Reykjavik and also visit some of the wonders of the Golden Circle. It's an amazing country, and I loved it so much that I'm going back this year for seven nights. And again, I am doing this with the Icelandair stopover Frank mentioned. Icelandair will give you up to seven nights stopover, which is an amazing deal.

Thanks, I needed the reassurance from those who have been there!

I like the idea of adding a day or two in Iceland at no extra cost. Appreciate the suggestions.

As everyone else has said, that is completely doable. If you can, I highly recommend doing more than just a night or two as a stopover though. That barely lets you see Reykjavik much less anything else. Iceland Air does let you do stopovers for up to 7 nights, so fit in as much time as you can.
