We wish to travel from Stockholm to Copenhagen train. Approximate costs? What are our best options? Is flying a better choice?
Check out Norwegian Air.Shuttle. It is something like 400 miles--not close.
Direct, fast, reserved trains take 5 hours. The fare options are all over the place, depending on how early you book and which refund/exchange restrictions you accept. About $120 is a reasonable estimate if booking on short notice, but not the highest price, and two months ahead can be much cheaper. See www.sj.se.
If you book 2 months in advance, very cheap I paid 40$ can for a first class ticket including breakfast (I tought I would slurge for the breakfast and first class but it was not worth it.) About 5 hours from each city center. If you are thinking of flying, beware that taxi or local transport to the airport are quite expensive, and you would not be saving much time.
When we traveled between Stockholm and Copenhagen we compared train and floght prices. SAS was a lot less expensive than the train so we flew. Both cities have trains to and from the airport.
Book in advance and you can get a 2nd class ticket for 195 kr (≈€20), first class can be found for 295 kr (≈€30). Prices increase closer to departure. And no, flying is not a better choice.
We just did this in June and opted for train. By booking almost as early as we could, we paid $67 (2nd class) for the two of us. The train trip ended up being less convenient than it normally would be because of rail work in Sweden. But it was about 5 1/2 hrs with the additional changes (had to leave from Stockholm Sodra instead of from Stockholm Central) - and you wouldn’t save much time, if any, by flying - and the train is so much more comfortable!
