stockholm, tallinn and Helsinki by ferry

I'm a middle aged female planning to travel alone from Stockholm to Tallinn to Heisinkin to Stockholm by ferry on the Silja line. Is there a way to book a cabin with same sex travelers? Also, does this ferry have a good reputation in terms of passenger safety on overnight trips? I read something about many drunk passengers on these ferries, Is that something I should be concerned about? Anything that can help in my booking this trip will be very helpful. Thank you.

You can book cabins with same sex strangers or even small cabins just for one person. Just depends on how much you want to spend (though it's not expensive to have your own cabin if it's windowless in the bowels of the ship). The ferries are very safe and you have nothing to worry about. Silja is reportedly the calmer line and I had no issues and there were plenty of families and singles. I'd bet its quieter on weekdays too.

I took the Stockholm to Tallinn over night ship and met some locals who told me not to eat at the first sitting for dinner (there are 2). They said to eat at the second setting so I could watch the sunset as we cruised between the islands on the way to the Baltic Sea. Same thing on the way back. It can be a booze cruise because the ship is duty free ( that's why it makes a 20 minute or so stop in remote islands owned by Finland) and the tax rate is so high in the region.

I took this ferry with my mom and her husband who are in their 60s, I'm in my 20s. I can tell you this, us three plus a Muslim family were the only sober ones onboard. The drinking didn't begin until well after dinner though. It was quite the experience, almost a cultural experience, something I have never witnessed before actually. My mom and I stayed up til 1am just "laughing" at the people. It's not like Vegas, just different. It was slightly sad at times, just seeing so many people intoxicated, but it was never a problem with me since they were all very friendly drunks. The morning was very pleasant and quiet, as you get into the archipelago early in the morning when everyone is hungover. The boat I was on had little seats in the windows, people would walk by, but never unsafe. The crew know this is a routine activity so they are prepared and experienced with this crowd.
