Will be travelling to Cinque Terre region in July and will be staying at La Spiaggia in Monterosso...does anyone know how the rebuilding is going....recently I read an article, as of this date, the recovery is still an ongoing effort and there is still a lot more work to be done. Quite frankly, sounded pretty bleak...
you can check status at www.rebuildmonterosso.com Monterosso has made great progress and 3 of the other villages were unaffected Vernazza is still under construction but also making progress
you will be fine in Monterosso in July
loretta, The recovery efforts in both Vernazza and the "old town" section of Monterosso have been remarkable! Many of the businesses in Monterosso have re-opened (or will shortly). Your Hotel is in the "new town" section of Monterosso (close to the station), which wasn't affected by the floods. For more detailed information on the current status of both towns, have a look at: Monterosso Vernazza Of course, it will take much longer for Vernazza to return to normal, but you'll note that many of the businesses should be open by July. Local authorities have announced that they plan on having all the trails open by Easter, but not sure if they'll be able to accomplish that? According to the Rebuild Monterosso website, "spring cleaning" is currently underway on some of the trails. At the moment, only the Via dell'Amore from Riomaggiore to Manarola is open, but that could change in the next month or so. Happy travels!
