In the past I have taken the train from Provence to Nice. On this next trip thinking about driving so that I can see some of the coast and villages.
I do not plan on keeping the car in Nice as it is very easy to get to where I want to go by bus or train..Can anyone advise me on the pros and cons of driving?
Is there a surcharge for picking up the rental at one location and dropping off at a second? Is it easy to drop a car off in Nice?
Should I drive straight thru or spend the night somewhere like St Tropez?
Has anyone done this drive?

I would advice driving if you want to see the coast and villages. But I'm not sure you can pick up a rental car (or a train) in St. Remy. You could in Avignon.
Dropping in Nice - well all of the Riviera towns are a little chaotic and Nice probably has more easily understandable routes into the center. Explore your options on www.autoeurope.com for rental offices near train stations.
