Split- Hvar - Korcula- Dubrovnik Travel

We are traveling to Croatia in late May. We have figured out that we can take a catamaran from Split to Hvar. It looks like the catamaran is faster than the ferry. It looks like the cat from Hvar to Korcula ends in Vela Luka, not Korcula Town where we are staying (50 km away). Do we take a ferry instead of a catarmaran from Hvar to Korcula town or take the cat to Vela Luka and a bus or cab to Korcula Town? Which route is better? Next is Korcula to Dubrovnik. Is the best way there a cat again or a ferry via mjet or some other way? Do we need to purchase any of these tickets ahead of time?
thanks.

We took the same route a couple years ago, the Cat from Split to Hvar is the most convienent, though it is a short trip, so any boat that fits your schedule is the best one. We were able to take a late in the day boat from Hvar to Korcula, it stopped at Vela Luka, but went on to Korcula town. Korcula to Dubrovnik, we took the bus, worked best with our schedule and it was a pleasant trip. We usually bought our tickets the day of, or day before our travel, no need to buy from the US.

Hi Kathy, the cat departs Hvar everyday in the late afternoon/early evening and arrives in Korcula old town (not Vela Luka), schedule can be found here - http://www.krilo.hr/en/sailing_schedule.html. This is the same cat that you will take from Split to Hvar. No need to buy tickets in advance, all the information about where to purchase is also on this website, except the only place you can but the tickets in Korcula is in a small booth near to the dock where the cat leaves. There is also a car ferry and cat from Split to Vela Luka daily but you will want to take the one to the old town (operated by Jadrolinija - http://www.jadrolinija.hr/). If you did travel to Vela Luka, there is a bus that meets the boat and it is about an hour to the old town. To get to Dubrovnik from Korcula, there is a bus that leaves every morning from the main bus station around 6am (you can buy tickets at the bus station, best the night before in case it is busy). The journey takes 3 hours but is very scenic. The fast catamaran doesn't operate until July/August and the slow ferry until June. Hope this information helps - you will love Croatia, especially the Dalmatian coast.
