Hi - does anyone know if a one-way SparSchiene ticket from Venice to Vienna, (that can be bought on the OEBB website) will be valid if I start from Venice? I can't find any information on the website about having to have an Austrian stamp unless it's an overnight train, but just wanted to check. Thanks!!
Andrea, that was my question exactly - thank you!
I'm not sure if I understand your question, but I went by bus and train from Venice to Salzburg this summer and there was no problem. This was for the route that goes through Villach, which is only accessible from Venice by bus. I bought the ticket from the OEBB website. I printed it at home and handed it to the bus driver in Venice when I boarded and then to the train conductor en route to Salzburg. Not sure how it compares to your Vienna ticket, but hope this helps. (I didn't have to have an Austrian stamp in Venice, if that is the question.)
Andrea, I think you answered the question. I was going to say the same thing, except I haven't actually done it. I wanted to wait for someone who actually had. I do know of people who have traveled from Amsterdam to Germany with online tickets from the Bahn, so you don't have to have a ticket from the country where you start.
