i am renting a car in barcelona and driving to various places in southern spain. i then want to drop off the car and go to morocco- i will only have 4 days there and would like to see fes and chef at least. i then would like to go to lisbon. any ideas about getting from southern spain to northern morocco and then to lisbon?
Jane, We took the ferry across from Tariffa to Tangiers. From there we took a bus to Chef and Assila. Don't know about the return to Lisbon. I really enjoyed Morocco.
Unless you have lots of time for trains, buses, and boats, you will most likely have to fly. Look at http://www.skyscanner.com/ to find flights. There are ferries from Algeciras and Tarifa in Spain to Tangiers in Morocco, but you then have to get to Fez. From the Spanish ferry ports to Lisbon you'd have to take buses for at least part of the way, from Spain to Portugal (train or bus works for southern Portugal to Lisbon). Since you only have 4 days in Morocco, you don't have time for surface transit. Here's the Man In Seat 61 on train travel in Morocco: http://tinyurl.com/lk6jfye. Hi Jane....we pent 10 days in Morocco in 2011. We took the early ferry from Tarifa and had a guide/driver meet us there. We then drove for an afternoon visit to Chef with lunch and then onto a 3 night stay in Fes. A trip would be totally doable if you choose this way to travel. We saw many things and learned much about the culture traveling this way. Our guide spoke 8 languages fluently. He can return you to Ferry or drop you at airport in Casablanca for your onward travel.
