We want to rent a car in Seville and explore villages on our way to Granada. Can you offer suggestions for a one-day rental? Sixt prices are over $200.00. There's go to be something more ecomonical, I hope!
I just checked SIXT rentals from Santa Justa; I see several automatic options for far less than that price: Peugeot 208 sedan: $US 107.62 is one option but there are quite a few others. (Same vehicle is about USD 120 at the airport)
I rent directly from SIXT, not with a broker. And if you sign up with them, you will receive notice of their frequent sales.
I Peugeot 208 is quite a small car and probably smaller than you will be used to. It will be perfectly fine for two but possibly a bit cramped if there are more of you and certainly challenging to get more than two suitcases in. The 208 is also a hatchback rather than a saloon car i.e. It does not have a separate boot but you can put the rear seats down to make a larger space.
I would also try Autoeurope, it is an American based consolidator. In general, I also like to book directly with the provider whether it be hotels or tours, but I've found Autoeurope's prices to often be better than working with the companies directly, and their customer service is excellent. I booked a car from Santa Justa and drove to Granada. The company was Europcar which I booked thru Autoeurope. Another nice thing about Autoeurope is that there is a U.S. based phone number for assistance. https://www.autoeurope.com/
The Peugeot 208 was only one of quite a few cars available from SIXT. They have larger cars if you prefer those.
I used AutoEurope for many years before switching to booking directly with Sixt for rentals in both Spain and Italy. I feel that there are several advantages in booking this way. One of those is that the range of cars is much larger than you find with a broker. I'm sure both methods of booking are fine; I just prefer the direct way. One tip is to make sure to get the direct phone number of the rental location when you take the car. So if you have any problems, you can phone them without going through the main number for Sixt. I have had so many good experiences with them, where the agents went out of their way to help me (a fairly anxious, and often solo, driver.). It's probably just good luck, but I've never had to stand on a line before picking up my car at an airport. I see other agencies (EuropCar) with many people lined up in front of the desk. For some reason this has not happened to me with SIxt but, as I said, maybe that's just good luck.
One downside of Sixt, though, is that they have fewer locations than some other large agencies....example: We need to travel from Matera next month, to locations in Puglia. but since Sixt does not have a Matera location, we have to take the bus from there to the Bari airport, and rent the car there. But I'm willing to do that because I've had those good experiences with them in the past.
Having said all that, I don't think they are the cheapest option; my cost increases because I take all insurances with no deductible, and I also get a GPS in the vehicle. That costs extra but makes navigating so easy.
My point in mentioning the size of the 208 was to perhaps explain the difference in quotes i'e. Denise might have been pricing a bigger and therefore more expensive car.
