Southhampton to Bruge

My husband and I are traveling to Europe via the Queen Mary 2. We arrive in Southhampton and were hoping to get a direct (or direct as possible) route to Bruge. We've looked into taking the train up to London then from London to Brussels, but are curious if we can eliminate the London portion? Any suggestions would be fantastic!

Not really. Some Eurostar trains stop at Ashford in Kent, but travelling from Southampton to Ashford by train avoiding London would take several changes and be slower than travelling via London.

Nope. Train Southampton to London Waterloo, Northern Line Charing Cross Branch northbound 3 stops to Leicester Square, change to northbound Piccadilly Line 4 stops to Kings Cross St Pancras, go upstairs to Eurostar to Brussels (absolute minimum 30 minute check in or you don't go) change at Brussels for the local train to Bruges/Brugge. Figure on 6 to 7 hours. Is there a plane? Dunno. Some routings route you via Clapham Junction and into Victoria then Victoria Underground to KX St Pancras. Changing trains at Clapham Junction with luggage could be fun.

There are flights from Southampton to Brussels, but not every day. You can check the timetable at www.flybe.com. Alternatives would be flying from Gatwick or Heathrow, which would avoid going all the way into London.

It looks like Bob has given you a very good option. You can fly directly from Southampton to Brussels on Flybe every day except Saturday. Depart at 11:15 and arrive at 13:25. Take a train from the airport to Brussels and another train from there to Bruges. There is frequent service on those trains and no reservations are possible. Buy your tickets at the station at the airport.

Thank you for the replies. I checked out the website for a flight and found one leaving at 11:15 am arriving in Brussels at 13:25 for 97 gbp (for 2). Great deal! Thanks!

amanda, if you are coming off a cruise liner after a week my money says you will have luggage, and maybe LUGGage. If so, be sure that price you found doesn't rocket with fees and baggage charges.
