Southern Spain to Morocco

We will be traveling around Seville, Granada and Cordoba in April. From there we want to go Morocco for two weeks. Is there good public transportation from either Cordoba or Grenad to the Gibralter area to take a ferry? Or, are there reasonable one-way car rental options?

Your best bus connections will be from Sevilla...they all seem to go to Algeciras, from where you can catch another for the short ride into Tarifa. As Ed mentioned, Tarifa is the best place for ferries...faster, more frequent, and cheaper. Check www.movelia.es for bus schedules and prices.
If you have no pressing need to see Gib and Tarifa, you can always fly direct Sevilla-Marrakech or Sevilla-Fez (Ryanair...be VERY careful as to their checkin procedures and luggage limits and charges,)..or Sevilla-Casablanca (Vueling.)

Car rental for a day is not much of a bargain unless you have a crowd. I think the ferries leave from Tarifa and Algeciras, not Gibralter, so you wouldn't have the second country drop-off problem if you did decide on the car.

Spain has a good bus system. One of the experts will tell you how to use it.

Consider the ferry to Tanger rather than Ceuta. It makes it easier to get to Fez or Marakech via the overnight train. (Don't bother hanging around Tanger; it's better than it was, but nothing like further south.) Bit fuzzy on this part, it's been years since I've been on those trains; flying just seemed to work out best. If nobody here knows, try the crowd on trip advisor or lonely planet.

The only problem with going to Morocco is that you never want to leave.

Consider flying. You can fly from many cities in Spain to Morocco incredibly cheaply. We flew from Madrid to Marrakesh for something like $75 US. Quick, easy, hassle-free, and best of all, you do not have to deal with all the touts waiting to descend on you as you step off the ferry.

Search for discount airlines that fly between Spain and Morocco - there are several.

Go to Marrakesh, Fes and the real cities of the interior, rather than the day-tripping boardertowns on the coast.
